What My Son Taught Me About Moments

What My Son Taught Me About Moments

This week’s inspiration comes from my son, Peter. As you may know, Peter wrestles. Yep, I’ve been one of those, a wrestling mom, for nearly eighteen years.

It’s been an interesting adventure, as I shared in a column I wrote about parenting a wrestler:

. . . the years of training and competitions and wins and losses and good refs and bad calls and 6 a.m. lifting and three-a-day practices and reading labels and measuring food to the ounce and injuries and casts and splints and bandages and trophies and medals and awards and a room wallpapered with brackets and oh my goodness the smelly laundry.

I learned and grew as parent and person as I watched him navigate through some hard lessons and tough seasons.

Last week I found out what he’s learned:

“Was it worth it?”

“Yes,” Pete said, “Even if it’s just moments.”

Last week we found ourselves in another special moment. With the help of a dear friend, I was able to fly out to California and be a part of Senior Day, the last time these young men would wrestle in a home dual meet. The seniors were honored, as well as their families. Then we snapped a special photo of Pete’s roommates and their moms, the wrestling moms. What stories we could tell of our sons’ journeys through the sport!

The celebration was a pause, Coach Borrelli reminded us, a worthy one for sure. But there is more wrestling ahead at the conference and national levels.

Like life. There is always more ahead.

As Coach Borelli noted in the video, “Nothing great comes without struggle.”

Amen! How many of us have learned that lesson?

But Pete is right. What’s special about the grind of struggle, even beautiful in the struggle, are the moments that inspire us.

Daily Grind

So it’s back to the grind for most of us. More moments await.

How about you? Have you experienced a moment of inspiration that’s fueling you through a challenge? Tell me about it. I’d love to know.

My best–always,

Becky  (Nana B)

P.S. My website has had a “face lift” and I hope to send out a book update soon. It’s in the “design phase,” where words are becoming pages. Mysterious and exciting, for sure. Stay tuned.
