My Small New Year’s Theme

My Small New Year’s Theme

It’s that time again. Time to pick a one-word theme that can inspire me every day in the coming year.

I deemed last year as the year of the SPARKLE. I believe that we all sparkle in different places and decided to seek out the sparkle in those whom I know or have yet to meet.

This year, I’m keeping it small. With so many new experiences coming up, there are sure to be peaks and valleys of emotion. I need a small word to keep me grounded in what is sure to be a volatile year.

Publishing a book is no easy task, I’m learning. The war stories from my fellow authors both excite and frighten me. From tales of unimaginable awards and notoriety to terrible reviews and disappointing sales, I have no idea what is in store for me.

So, I’m keeping it simple. Sure, I have grand goals, but I’m going to be content if every day is only a little BETTER.

Before my head hits the pillow each night, I’m going to ask myself, “Was today better? In any way?” And then focus on that and be grateful for the “better,” no matter how small it is.

Maybe I will say, “Yes, today is better. I received three five-star Amazon reviews! I’m grateful to connect with three people who thought highly of my book.”

Or maybe I will say, “Yes, today is better. I slept through the night despite a terrible review. I’m grateful that I’m learning how to keep one person’s opinion from affecting my health.”

No matter what my day holds, the ups and downs of publishing, family life, or my physical, mental, or spiritual health, I’m determined to find something that made my life better each day.

Some of us already know this year will be challenging. We may be moving through grief, accepting health changes, or transitioning into a new stage of life. Perhaps finding each day’s “better” moments can keep us connected to the positives in life.

How about you? Do you have a theme for the year? Tell me about it. I’d love to know.

Happy New Year! Hope each day is a little #better for you, too!

My best–always,

Becky  (Nana B)
