It’s been a week! Schedule changes, calendar conflicts, house issues and my paralyzed parts were misbehaving, too! Sometimes the last minute was the only minute that was predictable.
Yikes!
Thankfully, I was able to reorient with this thought:
“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.”
This prayer from Reinhold Niebuhr is revered in my family; we’ve come to protect it quite fiercely, albeit playfully. In fact:

Serenity is a named priority, guarded by accepting what we can’t change. — Becky Galli, Morning Fuel: April 23
But we also work hard to keep it and not letting others take it.
With some effort:

We’ve become mindful of who or what situation is trying to take our serenity from us as well as our role in giving it away. — Becky Galli, Morning Fuel; April 23
“You’re not taking my serenity,” I’ve heard more than once in our household during a disagreement that was becoming heated. “I was upset, Ma, but they didn’t get my serenity,” one of my children reported after a challenging conversation with a colleague.
Treating serenity as a prized possession has helped me keep silent when my opinion hasn’t been asked for and to stay in my lane when I’ve been tempted to meddle in others’ business.
We may not be able to control how we feel about a situation, but weighing its impact on our serenity can give us the time needed to consider a more thoughtful response.
How about you? How do you guard your serenity?
And on we go. . .
📖 Note: Today’s inspiration is also featured in Morning Fuel, April 23.
My best – always,
Becky (Nana B)
