Managing Moments

Managing Moments

Today’s inspiration comes from a quote that continues to give me perspective:

There is no such thing as a bad day, just bad moments that we choose to take with us all day long. —Anonymous

There is no such thing as a bad day, just bad moments that we choose to take with us all day long. —Anonymous

I have no one to thank for this pearl of wisdom as it appears to be anonymous, but boy has it been helpful to me, more than once!

It’s hard to discount problems. They seem to fester and gain importance, especially when we ruminate on them.

But perhaps as the quote suggests, we can limit how long we ponder a problem by labeling it as “just a moment,” letting it go, and purposefully moving on to the next moment. We don’t have to let it drain all the good moments that may be ahead.

That thought has served me well in the last few weeks. From my daughter Madison’s unexpected hospitalization to a lost credit card to a texting glitch that resulted in a 3 1/2 hour call to Verizon, life has had some bumps.

Choosing to view them as “moments” helped.

Although Madison’s hospitalization had many moments of concern and uncertainty, we moved through them (look at that smile!) and have used those experiences to expand the expertise that will improve her care.

Grateful Madison is back in action after her recent hospitalization.

As for the other moments—although the lost credit card was found (a Good Samaritan returned it!), my long moment with Verizon is still in progress. . .

But no worries, I’m on to other moments in this day.

Just like we have to “guard our serenity” I’m going to “guard my moments,” and set some mental timers to limit their impact, too.

After all:

We have twenty-four hours in the day. No need to taint all of them with one bad moment.

We have twenty-four hours in the day. No need to taint all of them with one bad moment.

How about you? What moments will you choose to take with you today? Which ones will you let go?

And on we go. . .
