Snow Excitement

Snow Excitement

Today’s inspiration comes from my sister, Rachel. I’d just told her about the snowfall that was rapidly blanketing my lawn.

“Remember how Mom used to ask us at bedtime if we wanted her to wake us up if it began to snow?”

I smiled, remembering those childhood bedtimes (and prayers) that included pleas for snow, lots of it, since it was so rare for us to experience as kids raised in the South.

Dad’s embellishment often found its way into my dreams:

“Kids, let’s hope it snows ‘axle deep to a Ferris wheel.’”

Ferris wheel

Vivid, right?

“And, Sissy,” Rachel continued, “remember Aunt Pearl’s visit and her reaction to that surprise snow fall?

“How could I possibly forget it!” I smiled again. “I think I still have the video.”

And I did:

What joy! What honest, unadulterated, wonder and joy! Tears joined my smile this time as I recalled that special visit, my one-of-a-kind Aunt Pearl and my parents who are no longer with us, and the delight they each brought to life through their expressions of excitement.

Excitement begets excitement, doesn’t it? How many times has someone else’s energy, excitement, or wonder stoked ours?

Why?

Receiving one another’s’ excitement broadens the moment, allowing us to become part of it—and then it to become part of us.

Receiving one another’s’ excitement broadens the moment, allowing us to become part of it—and then it to become part of us.

As I considered my New Year’s theme word, fortify, it dawned on me that being in the presence of excitement was a fortifying experience—a mood-boosting, capacity-building opportunity for wonder and joy to expand.

And on we go. . . staying fortified. . .

My best – always,
