A Reader’s Wisdom: Power of the Past

A Reader’s Wisdom: Power of the Past

This week’s inspiration comes from one of you, a dear friend I first met when I was in fourth grade.

My father called her “June-bug,” an example of his signature name-remembering technique that also helped me recall not only her name but the playful way Dad said it every time he greeted her.

In response to last week’s Thoughtful Thursday on The Power of the Past, she wrote:

So as to leave the past alone and let the past, pass—absolutely not. No Thank You! We only have the moment. We can plan and hope for the future, but the past remains a rock, even with the rough edges, which is life. It never stops being an influence, or teacher, or comfort. We can’t live in it, but not necessary to do so, as it never stops teaching us. One reason we look back to it is the preparation it gave us for the life we are presently living. Without it, we would have to start all over again; we only add to our journey. Without the past, it is an incomplete journey.

Wow. What insight!

. . . the past becomes a rock, even with the rough edges.

. . . never stops being an influence, or teacher, or comfort.

. . . it is the preparation. . . for the life we are presently living.

Thanks for sharing your inspiring wisdom, June-bug!

Indeed, as William Shakespeare reminds us, “What’s past is prologue.”

How about you? Do you feel your past has prepared you for the present you are living? Tell me about it. I’d love to know.

My best – always,

Becky  (Nana B)
