When Seeds Sprout: What My Mama Taught Me

When Seeds Sprout: What My Mama Taught Me

This week’s inspiration is short and sweet and will hopefully make you smile. My niece Ashley, has done it again. As you may recall, she is the one that introduced me to Snapchat, a photo-video messaging app that has helped me find great joy in connecting with my community of SnapChatters, mostly my far-flung family and a few friends.

This week, as we were celebrating the role of mothers in our lives and all that they have to teach, Ashley took our Snapchat conversations to a whole new level.

Check it out:

“My mama said that we spend more time with ourselves so we must be our own best friend.”

“My mama taught me not to compare my insides to somebody’s outsides.”

“My mama, she also taught me that just because they say it, doesn’t make it true.”

I hope you laughed as much as I did!

I must admit, I was impressed. In fact, I think I was even a little envious of my sister. Don’t we wonder what we’ve taught our children? What lessons have stuck? Which seeds that we’ve planted will sprout?

Ashley served it straight up to her mom.

Way to go, Sissy!

It reminds me of the framed poem that once hung in our childhood home, Children Learn What They Live by Dorothy Law Nolte. It now rests on a bookshelf in my home.

How about you? What lessons did your “mama” teach you? Tell me about it. I’d love to know.

My best – always,

Becky  (Nana B)
