Changes Ahead

Changes AheadDear Friends,

Yes, a new day is coming. And I want you to be the first to know about it.

But before I begin, I want to thank you. You are on my column email list and I appreciate that. You’ve read about my escapades from the wheelchair, my struggles with my darling Madison’s autism, and my Looking Homeward adventures rooted in my father’s writing. And now you’re reading about my empty nest and the new chapter beginning soon of grandparenting!

Thank you for reading and responding.

Many of you have been a part of this group, my precious Subscriber Family, for the entire eighteen years since my life’s hairpin turn after paralysis, back when I keyed in everyone’s email address and wrote a personal note! Those were long, hard days, but you helped me through it.

You gave me what I needed most then and even now—connection and community.

And that’s what I want to tell you about—the changes you’ll start to see in a few weeks. With a memoir in the works, a grandchild on the way, and a very empty nest, my goal is to write once a month about the things that really matter—family, staying positive, finding love and courage daily to withstand life’s inevitable storms. It may be a published column. Or one of Dad’s stories. Or one of mine. Or a quote. Or a photo. Or something I’ve read or seen that somehow made my day better.

I hope to be in your email box on the third Thursday of the month and call them,Thoughtful Thursdays. I know Dad would love the alliteration. How he churned out weekly columns AND weekly sermons, I’ll never know. So I’m aiming for once a month with hopes of doing more.

I hope you’ll stay with me and invite your friends! But no worries if you need to leave the family and unsubscribe. I’ll still be here if you want to come back.

In the meantime, brighten my day and tell me,

What’s the happiest thing that happened to you today?”

Mom, the master of happy, used to ask us that every night before she tucked us in.

So stay tuned. I hope to hear from you!

My best—always,

Becky
